A monumental temporary work by Daniel Buren, one of the most eminent French artists on the international art scene, will soon be on display at Liège-Guillemins railway station. The project is an initiative of the Uhoda group, in cooperation with the National Railway Company of Belgium and with support from private partners including Eiffage as proud Gold Sponsor.
For this endeavour, managing director of Eiffage Benelux Christophe Van Ophem signed the cooperation commitment at a press conference at the Centre Pompidou in Paris on 14 September.
“We are delighted to cooperate on this large-scale project that brings art and heritage together. After the earlier construction of the station, our Liege teams are happy to help raise the building to the next level and reach a very large audience in the middle of the city of Liege.”
The artwork promises to be a real gem for all train passengers at the station to enjoy over the next year. The work, which perfectly engages with Santiago Calatrava’s architecture, will unfold over the entire arch of the building through a play of colours, contrasts, projections and reflections. This masterly installation will be in constant motion depending on the play of light, the time of day and the season. With this work the artist transforms the station and gives it a new dynamism.
The work will be officially presented on 15 October 2022 by Stéphan Uhoda, the National Railway Company of Belgium and its partners. Artist Daniel Buren will also be in attendance. The artwork will be on display until 15 October 2023.
A new update on the project will follow on 15 October next!
